Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) find their origins in the time when African American students were systematically denied access to most other colleges and universities. Students at HBCUs have a unique opportunity to experience an educational community in which they are a part of the majority.
Types of Colleges
You'll find a range of schools and programs, from highly competitive, four-year universities to two-year colleges with open admissions. And while many HBCUs are in the south, a number of them are in Pennsylvania and Ohio. HBCUs offer all students, regardless of race, an opportunity to develop their skills and talents.
